Alice Marie Witcher, age 91, Havana, Kansas formerly of Shawnee, Kansas passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at her home in Havana. Funeral Services will be at Lighthouse Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2015 with Reverend Bill Munson officiating. Friends may sign the register Monday April 13, 2015 from 12pm to 8:00pm, with the family receiving friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Webb & Rodrick Chapel. Following the services in Independence, Mrs. Witcher will be taken to La Cygne, Kansas where a funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church, with Reverend Kevin Metsinger of Shawnee Mission Baptist Temple, Shawnee, Kansas officiating. Friends may sign the register from 10:00am until service time at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery in La Cygne. The family suggests memorials to Mercy Hospice and may be left with the Chapel.
Alice was born November 25, 1923 in Severance, Kansas to Clauskie Avery and Oleita Issabelle (Weightman) Carter. She attended and graduated from Severance Schools and on May 25, 1940 she married Frank G. Rhodes, the couple had three daughters, Frank passed away in 1965. Alice later married J. Frank Witcher on February 16, 1968 the couple made there home in Shawnee for 43 years before moving to Havana to be closer to their daughter Judy. Alice was a well known and respected cake maker in the Kansas City area for 20 years and was an active member of the Shawnee Mission Baptist Temple for over 42 years. After moving to Havana, Alice become a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Independence and had been a member there for the last 4 years.
Alice was preceded in death by two husbands Frank G. Rhodes, J. Frank Witcher, 2, sisters, Betty Vaughn, Sally Brockhoff, a brother, John Carter, a daughter, Jewel Fleming, 2, son-in-laws; Eddie Springer and Corkey Wade, a grandson, Marty Springer and a granddaughter, Julie Fleming.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Wade and grandson, Rocky Springer of the home, Joanne (Alan) Washburn of Lamar, Mo; 8 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
She loved Jesus, her family, her friends, and her Country.
