Gone Fishin
Alvin G. Miessler Jr. longtime Independence resident and business owner passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at home. Cremation has taken place and a visitation will be Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory from 9:00 a.m., - 8:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., The family suggest memorials be made to the organization of the donor's choice.
Al was born in Independence, Kansas on May 8, 1936 the son of Lillian French and Al Miessler Sr. He attended Independence schools and loved his community including any and all sports, and all things having to do with Independence. Al began his sales career by selling fishing bait in the basement of his grandparent's home while learning the fine art of fishing, and Hunting. Al married Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Simone on November 22, 1958 in Scammon, KS. Al had lived in the family home raising three children for the last 50 years. He owned and operated Man's Land, a men's clothing store for several years, coached Babe Ruth Ball, girls Softball and all things sports. He was instrumental in combining the Independence Museum at Riverside Park with the downtown Museum an active community member and belong to several clubs Rotary, and chamber of Commerce. Al was a constant within the community driving his red Suzuki, to the Drug Store, and to visit Riverside Park. Al and Liz had just returned from Casper, WY to watch their grandson play in the State Basketball Tournament and were planning another trip for graduation to Gillette, WY in May. He was very proud of his son, daughters, grandsons, and granddaughters accomplishments following their ball teams, tennis team's wherever the games were being played.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Al Miessler, Sr. and his grandparents Mary and Joel French. Survivors include his wife Liz of the home, two daughters: Becky Miessler, Independence, KS; Shelly and husband George James, Independence, KS; son: Mark and wife Carla Miessler, Gillette, WY; granddaughters Taylor Jurski, Overland Park, KS, granddaughter Jordan and husband Nathan Grotrian, Gillette, WY, two grandsons Cale and Dawson Miessler, Gillette, WY; one great granddaughter, Brooklyn Grotrian, Gillette, WY, one sister Mary Miessler Boyle, Tulsa, OK.
Webb & Rodrick Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with the arrangements.
