Barbara Ann Benson, 63, was called home on April 5, 2021. She was born on April 24, 1957, in Independence, Kansas to Richard E. Fienen and Elizabeth L. Brewster Fienen. She was a life-long resident of Independence, attending Zion Lutheran School through the 8th grade and graduating from Independence Senior High School.
She married Mark Alexander and from this union her beloved daughter Angela Renae Alexander was born. They later divorced. She went on to spend her life with Craig Benson whom she loved and cared for dearly.
She worked many years as a florist and finished her working career at Great Plains Federal Credit Union.
She was preceded in death by her mother Betty Fienen. She is survived by her husband Craig Benson of the home. Other survivors include her father Richard Fienen, her daughter Angie and her much loved grandchildren Kenzie and Kade, all of Independence. She is also survived by three brothers: Roger (Melanie) Fienen of Harrisonville, Missouri, Mark (Sheryl) Fienen, Todd (Patti) Fienen, and one sister Janet (John) Blurton, all of Independence.
She enjoyed gardening, visiting Colorado, and most of all, spending time with her beloved grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held April 10, 2021, at Zion Lutheran Church at 11:00 am, with Reverend Kevin Peterson officiating. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Zion Lutheran School or A.W.O.L.
