Barbara Ilene Beurskens-Campbell, 93, passed away at Country Place Senior Living in Independence, Kansas on Sunday, March 20, 2022.
Barbara was born the oldest of two children on August 25, 1928, in Melvern, Kansas to Clyde and Maude (Cockriel) Ingels. At a young age Barbara and her family moved to Bucklin, Kansas. Barbara started working the summer of 1941 (age 13) as a “soda jerk” at the Fisher Drug Store fountain, through high school she also worked for the “Huba-Buba”, Evans Café, Bucklin Hotel Cafe, and the Corner Café. After graduating from Bucklin High School, she attended beauty school at the Wilcox Beauty Academy in Dodge City, Kansas. She then worked in Dodge City as a cosmetologist for a short time before moving to Oklahoma City, where she worked in the same field until her marriage to Carl H. Beurskens in Oklahoma City in 1949. Barbara moved to South America where her husband worked for the oil company. She also worked in Venezuela as an office secretary-clerk.
After living in South America for four years, they moved back to Independence, Kansas and raised three boys. After returning to Independence, Carl and Barbara later divorced. After several years, she retired in 1993 from Hallmark Cards in Lawrence, KS. On August 20, 1994, she married Edward W. Campbell, the two enjoyed 22 years of marriage until his passing in December of 2016. Barbara loved to travel, play golf and work on her genealogy research, but most of all, Barbara was a devoted volunteer after retirement and spent several years traveling the world volunteering on the Mercy Ship and for the Red Cross.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Maude Ingels, stepson, Chris Campbell, brother, Truman Ingels and husbands, Carl Beurskens, and Edward Campbell.
Barbara’s memory will carry on with her three sons, Barry and wife Barbara Beurskens, Chris Beurskens, and Benny and wife Brenda Beurskens, all of Independence, KS, grandchildren, Brandon Beurskens, Brett (Ashley) Beurskens, Jennifer (Jared) Everitt, Shannon (Matt) Hallauer, Ryan (Stephanie) Beurskens, Jamie Beurskens, Morgan (Andrew) McClung, Carly Beurskens, and Coleman Beurskens, great grandchildren, Oaklynn McClung, Layne and Lexie Beurskens, and Carter, Hadley and Brinley Everitt.
