Barbara E. Day, 80, passed away Thursday, November 6th at her home in Independence, KS. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at The First Christian Church with Reverend Terry Hatfield officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Open Arms Dining and left at Webb Rodrick Chapel and Crematory. Friends may register from 9:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday November 11, 2014 at Webb Rodrick Chapel and Crematory. Barbara was born October 29, 1934 in Pittsburgh, Kansas to Ralph and Marjorie Walker Douglas. Barbara attended Pittsburg public schools and later Pittsburg State University where she met Ben Day. The couple dated and later married on April 21, 1957. Following the marriage, Ben was drafted and the couple moved to San Francisco, CA where Barbara found employment with Pacific Bell Telephone Company. Following Bens honorable discharge from the military the couple moved back to Independence, KS and then Dallas, TX Evansville, IN Peoria IL and returned to Independence, KS in 1968. After returning to Independence, Barbara was employed at several places and retired from the Montgomery County Clerks Office. Following her retirement, Barbara volunteered at the First Christian Church and with Open Arms Dining. Her glowing nature made it rare that Barbara was without a smile for everyone. She deeply loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Barbara was a member of The First Christian Church and P.E.O Chapter Will fill in once I know Barbara was preceded in death by her parents. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 57 years, Ben, four children, DeAnn Day, Independence, Kansas, Daniel Day, Overland Park, Kansas, Derrick Day and wife Melissa, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Drake Day and wife Jennifer, Independence, Kansas, four grandchildren, Rachael and Nathan Day, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Courtney and Marshall Day, Independence, Kansas.
