Ben B. Day, age 80, of Independence, passed away Monday, March 16, 2015, at his home in Independence. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Saturday, March 21st at 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church. The register book will be available to sign on Friday, March 20th from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to either the NRA or Shiners Hospitals and memorials may be left at the chapel. Ben was born December 25, 1934, in Arkansas City, Kansas to W.O. and Dorene (Burton) Day. Ben grew up in the Independence, Kansas area and attended and graduated from Independence schools. Following high school Ben attended Pittsburg State University and received his Bachelor's Degree. While living in Pittsburg he met and married his wife Barbara on April 21, 1957. Ben served in the United States Army from 1957 -1959. Following an honorable discharge from the Army, Ben and his family traveled with his job to many locations and eventually back in Independence where Ben became a prominent business man owning and operating many businesses in town. Ben was also a Licensed Real-estate Agent, Broker and Appraiser. In his spare time Ben was one of the founding members of the Baseball Association Taskforce, a member of the Masonic Lodge, Miza Shrine, Scottish Rite and an active and longtime member of The First Christian Church. Ben was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Barbara, and a daughter DeAnn. Survivors left to honor Ben's memory include three sons, Daniel Day, Overland Park, Kansas, Derrick Day and wife Melissa, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Drake Day and wife Jennifer, Independence, Kansas, four grandchildren, Rachael and Nathan Day, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Courtney and Marshall Day, Independence, Kansas.
