Betty Bottom

Betty L. Bottom, 61, Independence, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Montgomery Place in Independence, Kansas. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at The First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the Bryson and Bryttnee Bottom Education Fund in care of First Oak Bank or may be left with the chapel.

Betty was born February 6, 1956 in Independence, Kansas to Albert O. and Margaret S. (Shafter) Hamlin. Betty attended and graduated from Independence, Kansas Schools. Betty married James D. Bottom on January 5, 1980 in Independence, Kansas. Following graduation Betty attended Independence Community College where she received her Associate Degree, following her graduation from I.C.C. Betty attended Pittsburg State University where she received her Bachelor's Degree and then on to Friends University where she received her Master's Degree. Betty was employed as an ISO 9000 Auditor by Automotive Controls in Independence, Kansas her job also had her traveling to many foreign countries.

Betty was an active 28 plus year member of The First Baptist Church in Independence, a member of FORPAZ, and enjoyed working on crafts and collecting spoons from her work related travels. In her free time from her work travels Betty enjoyed gardening and shopping.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, and one sister Margaret L. Hamlin. Survivors include one son Bo J. ( Tina) Bottom, Pflugerville, TX; one brother, Gene ( Bev) Hamlin, Coffeyville, KS; two sisters Linda ( Bob) Jones, Elk City, KS; Patty (Todd) Fienen, Independence, KS; and three grandchildren, Bryanna, Bryson, and Bryttnee. Arrangements have been entrusted to Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory.
