Betty Anne Mahood Hybarger, 94, Independence, Kansas passed away on Friday, April 12, 2019, at Medicalodges in Independence, Kansas. The family will greet visitors from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2019, at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory. Private Services will be held at a later date.
Betty Anne Mahood Hybarger was born on January 27, 1925, in Girard, Kansas, to George and Janet (Hamiltion) Mahood and died on April 12, 2019. In 1943, she graduated from Central High School in Springfield, Missouri, and then attended Southwest Missouri State College. In college she was a member of Tri Sigma Sorority.
On October 10, 1945, she was united in marriage to Glenn C. Hybarger at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Springfield. They returned to Independence, where they then resided the rest of their lives.
Betty began employment at Citizens National Bank in 1968 and retired from there in 1990. At the time of her retirement, she was Assistant Vice President and Manager of the Installment Loan Department. After her retirement from there, she worked part-time at the Main Street Program for five years and then began fulltime employment for the Independence Public Schools -first as a study hall aide at Independence High School and then as a LADD aide at Washington Elementary School, retiring after fifteen years.
Betty was a member of Chapter DA PEO, Esther Lowry Chapter DAR, and the Independence Historical Museum. She attended the First Presbyterian Church for over fifty years, serving as a deacon during a portion of that time. In addition, she held positions on the William Inge Board and the Independence Public Library Board. In 1994 she was selected as a member of Leadership Independence.
An avid gardener, Betty had received the Garden of the Month plaque for her home twice.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; her parents; her brother, Stuart Allen Mahood; and great grandson, Aiden Hybarger.
Survivors include her sister, Sharon Mahood, Des Moines, Iowa; her daughter Linda and husband Larry, Independence; her son George and his wife Patsy, Broken Arrow; 'Oklahoma; and her daughter Cindy and husband Joe, Kingwood, Texas.
Grandchildren include Amy Wade and her husband Shane, Pittsburg, Kansas; Matthew Spencer and wife Diane, Independence; Jonathan Spencer, Overland Park, Kansas; Grant Hybarger and wife Ashley, Broken Arrow; Ryan Hybarger and wife Tara, Castle Rock, Colorado; Jonathan Beaty and wife Lauren( Page), Kingwood, Texas; and Lauren Beaty ,Kingwood,Texas.
She is also survived by great grandchildren Emma, Katelyn and Tyler Spencer; Spencer and Allie Wade; Aubriana Hybarger; Emarie and Eli Hybarger; and Brennan Beaty and Wylan Stewart.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the First Presbyterian Church Book of Remembrance, Independence, Kansas.
