Beverly Clark

March 3, 1938 — January 1, 2017

Beverly Deann Clark (Spencer), age 78, of Independence passed away at 7:05 p.m. on January 1, 2017 at the Heritage Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday January 9, 2017 at the First Baptist Church with burial to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will greet visitors from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory. Memorials may be made to Midwest Pregnancy Care Center, AWOL, or First Baptist Church-youth or may be left with the chapel.
Deann was born on March 3, 1938 in Independence, Kansas to Ila Lee Spencer and Maude Ella Spencer (Loomis) from Cherryvale, Kansas. Deann graduated in 1956 from Independence High School, attended the Bivines School of Business and Independence Community College where she earned an associate degree. She was a member and Deaconess of the First Baptist Church, member of the Beta Sigma Phi Kappa Chapter, member of FORPAZ, treasurer of the 911 support fund, secretary of the Concerned Citizens of Independence Historical Museum, and many other organizations.
Deann and Billy Mack Mersereau, of Independence, were married at the Evangelical United Brethren Church on January 19, 1957. They moved to Neosho, Missouri. The couple later divorced. Deann and Bill Gean Clark,of Drumright, Oklahoma were married at the First Southern Baptist Church in Independence, Kansas on June 2, 1972. Due to a job transfer within the corporate office of ARCO, they moved to Houston, Texas. Where they worked and lived for several years. Before leaving Houston, Texas, Deann retired from Gulf Consolidated International. After the couple transferred back to Independence, Deann was employed by City Publishing and ARCO and later owned her own business, Top Hat Caters and Optimum Health Products. Deann remained in the home until her death.
Deann was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; Donald Spencer, Max Spencer, Bill Spencer; one sister, Sue Smith; and first husband, Billy Mack Mersereau, passed away on April 29, 2008. Second husband, Bill Gean Clark, passed away on April 22, 1992
Survivors include one son, Mack Blaine Mersereau, Independence, Kansas; one daughter, Sherri Sue Barton, Highlands, Texas, one sister; Ila (Lee) Wuerdeman of Independence, Kansas; one brother, Larry (Linda) Spencer of Independence, Kansas; two grandchildren; Denise Valentine of Holston, Texas and Heather (Donnie) Onnen of North Shore, Texas; and four great grandchildren.
