Bruce Bailey

Bruce Allen Bailey, age 61, of Independence passed away at his home on August 15, 2017. Services will be held on Friday, August 25th at 1:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Independence.
He was born on November 18, 1955 in WaKeeney, KS to Robert D. Bailey and Mary A. (Orlowski) Bailey. Bruce was raised in Colorado and graduated from Moffat County High School in 1973. After attending Barnes Business College, he moved to Kansas in 1976 to pursue a long-time career in the retail business. Bruce married Teresa Morris on April 6, 1979. They welcomed a daughter, Crystal. They later divorced. Bruce enjoyed bowling, playing softball, and watching the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Royals, and NASCAR. He loved broadcasting Coffeyville Red Ravens football and basketball games for KGGF radio alongside his brother Gary. He continued to pursue his career in store management where he met Mary Ellis. They married on December 3, 1993. The had two children, Meagan and Robert. He later became founder and operator of Bailey's Corner convenience stores at several southeast Kansas locations. In 2012 Bruce and Mary welcomed Carsen into their home where he was considered one of their own. Bruce was employed by Bluffstone LLC working at the ICC dorms in security.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a niece, and brother-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and children Meagan, Robert, and Carsen of the home. His daughter Crystal and 2 grandsons, Dylan and Ryan, of Independence, KS. His brother Gary, of Coffeyville, KS, sisters Marcia Sovine of Independence, KS; Debra Williams and husband Barney of Colorado Springs, CO; and Rita Alexander and husband Mike of Caney, KS. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews as well as many amazing friends. He will forever be remembered for his gentle heart and great sense of humor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Carsen Bailey college fund through Great Plains Federal Credit Union.
