Carol Marie Kemp, 84, Independence, Kansas passed away on Monday, March 5, 2018 at Montgomery Place in Independence, Kansas. Graveside Services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas. Friends may register from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the Chapel. The family will greet visitors from 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Montgomery Place and may be left with the chapel.
Carol was born December 11, 1933 in Independence, Kansas to Lewis F. Jr. and Ruth M. (Vandermark) Brost. She attended and graduated from Independence, Kansas Schools. Carol married Richard D. Kemp on November 27, 1953 in Independence, Kansas. The couple made their home in Independence, Kansas and Carol was employed by City Publishing for 33 years. Carol was a longtime active member of Grace Memorial United Methodist Church, she was also a member of The Camping Club and the LeHunt Red Pepper Club. Carol enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 60 years Richard D. Kemp, one son, Randy Dwayne Kemp, one grandson, Cory Shawver, one sister, Verla Dean Garner, and one sister in law Carrol Brost. Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Rick (Andrea) Kemp, Galena, Missouri; Roger Kemp, Tulsa, Oklahoma; one daughter, Sonja (Tommie) Shawver, Independence, Kansas; seven grandchildren, and thirty great-grandchildren.
