Charles B. “Bugsy” Wilson, 66, of Independence, Kansas passed away on Sunday, August 18th, 2019 at St. Johns Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 24th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory with Elder Melvin Simpson officiating. Friends may register at the Chapel on August 23rd, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to AWOL and may be left with the chapel. Viewing will take place for the family and friends on Friday from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The casket will be closed following visitation.
Charles was born on April 17th, 1953 to Charles L. and Simintha Christina (Washington) Wilson in Independence, Kansas. His parents later divorced, and he was raised by his father and mother Letha Martinez Wilson. He attended Saint Andrews Catholic School and graduated from Independence High School. Following graduation, Charles joined the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1978. Following his discharge from the Navy, he was employed by the Independence Fire Department for 17 years. Charles was then employed by Mercy Hospital as a Physical Therapy Technician for four years. He was also an Operating Room Technician for six years. After leaving Mercy, he started the family cleaning business “Charles Wilson and Son” with his son Christopher Charles Wilson. Bugsy enjoyed building model cars and flying helicopters.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Jeffrey Friend and Gary “Lucky” Martinez. On May 9th, 1983 Charles married Maelene (Lewis) Wilson in Independence, Kansas. She survives along with their son Christopher C. Wilson, Parsons, Kansas and daughter Char A. Wilson, Independence, Kansas, two grandchildren, Jada A. Wilson and Charles E. Wilson, Parsons, Kansas. Other survivors include godson Dominique Thornton, of Wichita, Kansas, five brothers, Mark Wilson, Florida, Robert Bass, Las Vegas, Nevada, Michael Lyons, Parsons, Kansas, Mark Jeffries, Detroit, Michigan, and Kalem Wilson, Independence, Kansas. Surviving also are six sisters, Angela Wilson, Kansas City, Missouri, Jill Jeffries and Dawn Marie Jeffries both of Detroit, Michigan, Kimberly Wilson, Wichita, Kansas, Lesha Presley Wilson, Overland Park, Kansas, and Teresa Drake, Raytown, Missouri.
