Chester Dickey

Chester Eugene (Gene) Dickey, 73, Elk City, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Labette Health in Independence, Kansas. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, March 2, 2018 at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory with Reverend Darrin Melton of First Church of the Nazarene officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral service. Memorials may be made to AWOL and may be left with the chapel.

Gene was born February 7, 1945 in Ft. Scott, Kansas to Robert Eldon and Juanita (Reynolds) Dickey. He attended schools in Wichita, Kansas graduating in 1963. Following his graduation, Gene joined the Marine Corps Reserves in 1963. He also attended trade school in Dallas, Texas. On July 2, 1964 Gene was united in marriage to Janifred (Jan) Holcom. Jan passed away on May 23, 2010. Gene then married Janice Harclerode Nance on September 27, 2011. Gene was employed by KG&E / Westar as a Substation Foreman until his retirement in 2002. Gene loved living in the country and will be remembered as a good neighbor and friend to those around him.

Gene was preceded in death by his father, Eldon; his wife, Jan; and his brother, Bob Dickey. Those left to treasure his memory include his mother, Juanita Dickey, Wichita, Kansas; his wife, Janice of the home; his son, Michael (Valerie) Dickey and eight grandchildren, Liberty, Missouri; his brother, Bill (Nettie) Dickey, Springfield, Missouri; his sister, Marilyn (Tim) Butcher, Wichita, Kansas; and many other friends and extended family.
