Christopher Ronald Furnas, age 49, of Independence, Kansas passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2018. Chris was born February 11, 1969 to Ronald and Carlene (Morgan) Furnas in Independence, Kansas. He grew up in Sycamore, Kansas and attended the Sycamore United Methodist Church. Chris graduated from Independence High School in 1987. He attended Independence Community College before transferring to Pittsburg State University where he graduated with a degree in Automotive Technology in May of 1993.
Chris began employment with Ford Motor Company on April 7, 1993 in Dearborn, Michigan. In 1995 he was transferred to Louisiana where he worked for over 21 years as a Service Training Instructor, a Customer Service Engineer, a Customer Service Manager, and a Zone Manager. He transferred back to Kansas in the fall of 2016 and was currently serving as a Field Service Engineer in the Kansas City Region.
Chris was grateful to be living close to his family and childhood friends again. He took pride in the home he bought outside of Independence and loved to watch deer and turkeys eat corn from a feeder in his yard. He was a good cook, enjoyed Cajun food, loved boating, and took pride in his work. He loved his family and was a good son, brother, and uncle. His passing came too soon.
Those left to cherish Chris' memory are his parents, a sister Crystal Furnas of Sycamore, Kansas; girlfriend Connie Thomas of Madisonville, Louisiana; niece Jordan Furnas of Springfield, Missouri; and nephew Gabriel Clark of Sycamore, Kansas, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends are encouraged to sign the book at Webb and Rodrick Chapel on Thursday, October 11th from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The family will be greeting friends and family from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Services will be held on Friday, October 12th at 2:00 PM at the First Church of the Nazarene, 3167 South 10th Street, Independence, Kansas.
A memorial scholarship fund has been established at Community National Bank in Independence, Kansas for Chris' niece and nephew. Interment will be held at Rutland Cemetery immediately following the service.
