Clifford Lynn Merritt

Clifford (Lynn) Merritt, 71, Independence, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. There will be a private family service held at a later date. Memorials may be made to AWOL 116 S 23rd St, Independence, KS 67301.

Lynn was born on September 27, 1952, in Independence Kansas to Clifford H Merritt and Dorothy McTaggart. He attended Elk City schools until they moved to Independence his junior year. He graduated from Independence High School in 1970.

Lynn attended Pittsburg State University where he received his bachelor’s degree. He worked in the oil industry for companies such as Davis Oil Company and was a Controller for ARCO Pipeline Company. He enjoyed boating, woodworking, going fishing and spending time with his kids.

Lynn married Jeanne Scott on July 27, 1974. They later divorced, but remained good friends until his death. Lynn was preceded in death by his parents Clifford H. Merritt and Dorothy McTaggart and infant son Robert Andrew Merritt. Those left to cherish his memory include one son, Jeremy (Lindy) Merritt, Winfield, Kansas; three daughters, Rebecca Spicer, Wichita, Kansas; Alyssa Merritt, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Allie Merritt, Independence, Kansas; three sisters, Marilyn Wilson, Elk City, Kansas; Jan Stevenson, Andover, Kansas; Susie (Brent) Allen, Sullivan Missouri; four grandchildren, Asher Merritt; Oliver Merritt; Weston Spicer; Jacob Spicer.
