Danny Wayne Salisbury, 74, Independence, Kansas passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022 at Medicalodges in Independence, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Webb & Rodrick Chapel & Crematory. Following the service, the family will greet visitors until 8:00 p.m. with cremation to follow. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital and may be left with the chapel.
Dan was born June 11, 1948 in Independence, Kansas to Glen T. and Dorothy Salisbury. Dan attended schools in Independence, Altoona, and Caney, KS. Graduating from Caney Valley High School in 1969. Dan also attended Coffeyville Community College before joining the United States Navy in February of 1969. Dan was a survivor of the shipwreck of the Frank E. Evans on June 3, 1969, which took the lives of 74 of his fellow shipmates off the coast of Vietnam. Dan was honorably discharged from the Navy in December 1972. Following his discharge Dan was employed by Emerson Electric as a supervisor for 18 years. After his employment at Emerson Dan opened up the $1 Shop and ran it for the next 12 years. Dan then worked part time at Auto Zone.
Dan enjoyed camping, and fishing, he was a member of the VFW 113, Fortitude 107 Masonic Lodge where he served as past Master, Independence Shrine Club where he served as past President, and a member of Frank E. Evans Association.
Dan was preceded In death by his grandparents and his parents. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Rhonda of the home, two daughters, Sarah (Ben) Long, Independence, KS; Susan (David) Bryant, Shawnee, KS; three grandchildren, Riley Salisbury, Wyatt Long, Jase Bryant, and one sister Jean Ernest, Caney, KS.
