David H. Bailey, 78, of Independence, KS, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at his home.
A native of Mount Vernon, IL, he was born April 2, 1937 to William and Beulah Bailey, one of four children. Mr. Bailey served his country from 1954 to 1962 in the U.S. Navy Reserve and was a substitute high school electronics teacher at East Alton Wood River Community High School. In 1958 he started employment with Sinclair Oil Company in Altoona, PA. His work with Sinclair took him to Marion, OH and then Independence, KS in 1967; retiring from ARCO in 1992.
David is survived by his wife, of 57 years, Dorothy, son W. Christian (wife Lisa, sons Tyler & Jacob) of Shawnee, KS, and daughter Jeannine Hurford (husband Bruce, daughters Megan, Bailey, & Lindsey) of Chapman, KS. He is also survived by nephew Fred "Butch" Dye and niece Claudia Veltman. He was preceded in death by parents William and step-mother Ruby Bailey; biological mother Beulah Pate; his brothers, Parker and Harry; and sister Ida O'Nan.
Friends will be received on January 12, 2016 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Webb & Rodrick Chapel, Independence, KS. Funeral services will be held on January 13, 2016 at 11:00am at the First Presbyterian Church, Independence, KS with Pastor John Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
