David Michael DeMoss was born on January 25, 1953, in Independence, Kansas to David McFarland DeMoss and Winifred Shirley Lattin DeMoss.
A medical condition at birth left Michael with extensive paralysis of the right side of his body but he dealt with that disability with a positive and determined attitude which endeared him to all in the community who knew him.
He attended Lincoln Elementary School with students who would be part of the IHS Class of 1972. Later, Michael participated in a special workshop program in Independence for several years. In 1989, Michael received his GED diploma in a graduation ceremony in the Independence Community College auditorium. This achievement was a tremendous point of pride for Michael and his family.
Michael was active in the Friends church congregation in Independence for many years where he enjoyed the social and spiritual aspects of that loving faith community.
Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents Earl and Thelma Lattin, his parents, Uncle Earl Lattin, Jr. and Aunt Trudy Lattin of Cocoa Beach, Florida.
He is survived by his sisters, Judy Middleton (James) of The Woodlands, TX and Kathy Mendoza (Joe) of Andover, KS. Cousin Connie Duncan, Cocoa Beach, FL, nieces Michelle Robertson, Eldorado, KS, Heather Adlem (Sanna), Chicago, IL, Megan Mendoza, Chicago, IL, and Jaclyn Bell (Chris), The Woodlands, TX. Nephews Jimmy Middleton, Lawrence, KS and Jon Middleton, The Woodlands, TX.
Michael is also survived by grand nieces and nephews Sean Duncan. Kaitlyn Harbes, Connor Harbes, Courtney Duncan, Everett Middleton, Karen Middleton, Bailey Middleton, Karter Middleton, Milly Guerrero Mendoza, Dylan Bell, and Oliver Adlem.
