Delmar Jones

Delmar E. Jones, age 86, of Independence, passed away Monday, August 25, 2014 at Medicalodges of Independence. Honoring Delmars wishes cremation will take place and a graveside memorial service will be held on Friday August 29, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery, with Elder Art Tull officiating. The family suggests memorials to Grace Memorial United Methodist Church which can be sent to Webb Rodrick Chapel Crematory.

Delmar was born June 9, 1928 in Peru, Kansas the son of Earnest and Charlotta Doty Jones. He was raised in Montgomery County and attended Independence Schools. After school Delmar found employment with the United States Postal Service and worked as a letter carrier. On August 14, 1948 Delmar married Shirley J. Hersh, Mrs. Jones passed away on November 25, 2010. In 1989 Delmar retired after 50 years of service and started enjoying the finer things in life such as traveling, making it to 46 of the lower 48 states. He was an avid wood worker, restoring antique furniture, building cradles, cribs, and rocking horses.

Survivors include two daughters: Sheryl Fienen of Independence, KS and Vicki Shepard of Wellsville, KS a son: Steve Jones of Independence, KS a brother Denzel Jones of Independence, KS 5 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and 3 sisters Marietta Warren, Lorna Morgan, Norma Kenworthy

Webb Rodrick Chapel Crematory have been entrusted with the arrangements.
