Dennis Eugene Cox was born to Donald Eugene Cox and Betty (Dwyer) Cox on November 19, 1950 in Independence, KS. After several months of illness, Dennis went to heaven on October 21, 2021.
Dennis graduated from Independence High School in 1968. Shortly after, he enlisted with the United States Navy, serving four years with an honorable discharge on May 20, 1975. After his discharge, Dennis attended the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa and graduated in August of 1979, receiving a diploma as an Aviation Electronics Technician. While attending Spartan, Dennis also obtained his Private Pilot Certification. After graduating, Dennis moved to El Paso, Texas and worked at White Sands Missile Range as an Electronics Technician. From El Paso, he moved back to Tulsa for a few years before returning to Independence to work with his father (Don Cox) at D&C Welding and Machine Service in 1981. He officially retired in October 2019.
Dennis married Debra, the love of his life, in May of 1983 and they made their home in Sycamore. They had four daughters, Christi Seaboldt (Dale), Kylee Ghering (Cliff), Carrie Cox, and Kelly Cox (Logan). They have eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Dennis has a sister, Donna Murdock, and a brother, Doug Cox (Kelly). He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Thomas “Mickey” Cox.
Dennis and Deb spent much of their time taking vacations to the gulf and watching Royals Baseball together. He loved guitars and 60 Minutes, which he watched every Sunday (and you better be quiet!). He could often be found working on his lawn, as mowing was one of his favorite hobbies. Later in life, Dennis also became quite the gun collector and he frequently spent time target shooting with his grandson, Jensen, and cleaning the guns in his collection. Dennis is well known for his excellent fabrication skills, honesty, dry humor, and gentle manner.
