Dolores Newkirk

Dolores Annette Newkirk, 82, of Independence, died Wednesday at her home following a stroke. Celebration of life service will be at 10am on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the assembly of God Church in Independence. Memorials are suggested to the Assembly of God Church, P.O. Box 887, Independence, KS 67301. Mrs. Newkirk was born January 15, 1932 in La Cygne. She graduated from high school in Fontana and completed nurses training at Bethany College in Kansas City, KS. She worked at Mercy Hospital in Independence from 1957 to 1964 and at Edwards County Hospital in Kinsley from 1965 to 1994. She married Allan Newkirk and the couple retired to Independence in 1997. Mr. Newkirk survives at the home. In addition to her husband Mrs. Newkirk is survived by two sons, Delane Newkirk, of Lyons, and Bruce Newkirk, of Crowley, Texas a daughter, Stephanie Zorn, of Ellinwood 12 grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren. Arrangements have been entrusted to Webb Rodrick Chapel Crematory
