Dorothy Plumley, age 73 passed away January 16, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO. Dorothy was born on July 26, 1941 in Adair, OK to Melford and Mildred Sumner, she attended school there until the family moved to Independence when she was in the 3rd grade. Dorothy received her diploma from Independence High School in 1959. After graduation Dorothy worked at several retail stores in different positions as well as working for Emerson Electric and ACC. In 2005 Dorothy met Jerry Plumley in the lobby of Penn Terrace apartments and the couple married one year later and have been inseparable every day since that time. Dorothy loved the outdoors and all it had to offer, fishing, her vegetable garden, flowers, and the fresh air. She also enjoyed making and selling crafts at Branson and other festivals. Above all Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. Left to honor her memory is her husband Jerry, son David Lindsay and wife Sherry, sister Wanda Sue Graves and husband Houston, 5 grandchildren, one great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honoring Dorothy's wishes cremation will take place; friends are welcomed to Webb & Rodrick Chapel & Crematory at 10am on Thursday, January 22, 2015 to visit with family and share memories. A memorial service will begin at 11am with Ronald Christlieb officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Webb & Rodrick Chapel & Crematory.
