Enid Drusilla Fowler Searcy, known lovingly to her family as Dewey passed from this life on Wednesday, February 27th at Grandwood Assisted Living Center at the age of 90.
Dru was born in Wichita on July 21, 1928 and raised by her parents Luther J. and Enid Fowler in Independence, Kansas.
Dru was the drum majorette at Independence High School graduating in 1946. She attended Independence Community College and the University of Kansas.
She met the love of her life, Bill Searcy at Independence Community College and they were married on December 26, 1948, until Bill's passing in May of 1998.
Family was the love of her life. Dru was a loving and giving mother to her children Lynn (Kent Stewart) and Marty (Carol Searcy). Dru also has three grandchildren -Ben (Georgia Searcy)and Lee Searcy and Andy Stewart.
Dru was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, helping with Kids Club. She belonged to P.E.O., Child Study, Independence Country Club and played duplicate bridge. She was an avid life-long Jayhawk fan.
Dru loved the outdoors. She loved birds and all animals. She was an avid gardener and grew beautiful flowers. Dru helped with Meals on Wheels and was always first to lend a helping hand.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her parents, Luther J. Fowler Sr. and Enid Fowler her brother and his wife, Luther J Fowler Jr. and his wife Jan.
A memorial service for Dru is planned for Saturday at 11:00 am at FUMC in Independence. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Kids Club in care of First United Methodist Church in Independence, Kansas.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Webb Roderick Funeral Home in Independence.
