Eugene Lee Richardson age 91 of Independence passed away on October 27, 2018 at the Gansel House Assisted Living.
Gene was born at home in Sycamore on May 4, 1927 to Clell and Ella (Smith) Richardson. He attended local schools and finishing his education in Earlton. Gene joined the United States Army in 1945 where he served as an Air Engine Mechanic. After receiving his honorable discharge he worked for a brief time at the Kansas City Chevrolet Factory then made his home in Cherryvale where he worked at the smelter. On September 16, 1951 he was united in marriage to Thelma Mishler. The couple made their home in Cherryvale for many years before moving to Independence in 1993. Gene enjoyed fishing, woodworking, working in the flower and vegetable garden. He also enjoyed growing pecan trees so he could share the pecans with the squirrels. Gene was able to build or fix anything it seemed, when something around the house broke he was able to fix it without calling a repair man. Gene was pretty reserved, known to be simple and quiet. He enjoyed staying at home and keeping mostly to himself but always got a kick out of picking on his nieces and nephews.
Gene is survived by his brother Marvin Richardson and his wife Mary, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Thelma, brother Dean Richardson, and sister Helen Neil.
