Fern N. Loomer, age 96, of Independence passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Eagle Estates in Independence. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 30th at First Baptist Church with Pastor David Henneke officiating, with burial to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may register on Friday, August 29th from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Webb Rodrick Chapel. The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church or Gideons International and memorials may be let at the Chapel.
Fern was born November 7, 1917 in Craig County, OK, the daughter of Thomas Edwin and Clara Gertrude Shearheart Vandermark. She was raised in the LeHunt district north of Independence, attending LeHunt schools up to the eighth grade and graduating from Independence High School in 1937. On June 25, 1939, she married Melvin W. Loomer and they lived in Wichita and St. Louis, MO before returning to Independence in 1946. They were married 68 years and 3 months at the time of Mr.
Loomers death in October of 2007. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her three children: Stanley and wife Judy Loomer of Madison, OH, Elaine Loomer Maples of Desoto, TX and Lois and husband Bruce Williams of Waxahachie, TX. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 14 greatgrandchildren as well as 2 greatgreat grandchildren.. She was preceded in death by her parents, all nine of her siblings, a granddaughter: Kris Loomer and a greatgreat grandson: Tim Gray.
