Florence Burnett

Florence Marie Burnett, age 98, passed away Sunday, August 9th at Mercy Hospital in Independence. Services will be held on Friday, August 14th with burial at 9:30 a.m. at Jefferson Cemetery with a service following at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Roland Vega officiating. There will be a visitation on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Webb & Rodrick Chapel with the family greeting friends. The family suggests memorials to the Florence Burnett Memorial Fund for the Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund and memorials may be left at the chapel.
Florence was born February 12, 1917 in Wausa, Nebraska, the daughter of Carl and Alma (Anderson) Thorell. She graduated from high school in Nebraska and had been offered a scholarship to the University of Nebraska. On September 24, 1937 Florence married Cessna D. Burnett. After their marriage they moved to Bentonville, Arkansas and in 1951 they bought a farm in the Jefferson area. Cess passed away July 9, 1973 after 35 years of marriage.
Florence was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was a skilled seamstress, she loved crossword puzzles and had been active at Zion Lutheran Church in earlier years. During WWII she had worked at the shipyards in Florida and had worked at Electra and Emerson Electric in Independence until retirement.
Florence is survived by her son; Dean (Helen) Burnett of Independence and daughter; Anne (Jim) Ramsey of Elk City. She is survived by her grandchildren: Danny (Amy) Burnett, Jennifer Ramsey and Jessica (Joe) Jones as well as great-grandchildren; Brian, Brittney, Bailey, Curtis, Hannah, Tayler and Caitlin Burnett and Iris Jones. She is also survived by her sisters; Bernice and Helen, her brother-in-law; Jim (Bert) Burnett, sister-in-law; Barbara Burnett and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandsons; David Burnett and Doug Burnett, brothers; Conrad and Julian and sisters; Grace and Eunice, sister-in-law; Maree (Rodney) Gillihan and brother-in-laws; Arby (Barbara) Burnett and Drexel (Grace) Burnett.
Webb & Rodrick Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with the arrangements.
