Hazel Bishop

Hazel Bishop, 84, of Independence, KS passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
Hazel was born on April 20, 1932 to Ishmeal Dean and Versie Relford in Bolton, KS. She moved to Independence, KS shortly after with her family and lived here most of her life and attended public schools here. Hazel married Grady Bishop and they had one daughter, Leisa Halpain. Grady later passed away on September 11, 2010.
Hazel spent many years caring for others and enjoyed her housekeeping position at the Montgomery County Courthouse, where she retired. Hazel also enjoyed gardening and caring for many children.
Hazel is preceded in death by her husband, Grady Bishop, and three siblings.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Leisa (David) Halpain, Independence, KS; Homer McIntosh, brother, Independence, KS; Katherine Brown, sister, Independence, KS; Terrell Lewallen, grandson, Broken Arrow, OK; Christopher Lewallen, grandson, Independence, KS; and Niesha (Randy) Miser, granddaughter, Lavon, TX; and four great-grandchildren, Jorden and Kiera Lewallen, and Xavier and Audra Miser.
A graveside service will be held for Hazel on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, KS at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be left with the family to help with funeral expenses.
