Howard Lloyd Mellen, 67, Independence, Kansas passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at home. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Lighthouse Baptist Church with burial to follow in Havana Cemetery in Havana, Kansas. Friends may register on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory with the family receiving guest from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Bartlesville Cancer Center and may be left with the Chapel.
Howard was born in Fredonia, Kansas on September 25, 1948 to LeRoy and Marie (Seller) Mellen he attended and graduated from Wayside, Kansas Schools. Following school Howard was employed by Jensen Manufacturing in Coffeyville, Kansas. On May 30, 1968 Howard married Lola Wade the couple made their home in Coffeyville, Kansas and later Reid Pump, Class LTD and Standard Motors until his retirement in 2010. Following his retirement Howard went back to work for Spears Manufacturing in Caney, Kansas.
Howard loved music and had two bands U.S. Mail and Honkey Tonk Experts. When Howard was not playing music he enjoyed coaching Baseball, Soccer, Softball and Wood Working.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Janice Hook. Survivors include his wife Lola of the home, two sons, Doug and wife Norma Mellen, Independence, KS; Gene and wife Lisa Mellen, Independence, KS; one daughter, Meggin and husband Mike Waggoner, Caney, KS; two brothers, Randy and wife Linda, Mellen, Havana, KS; Curtis and wife Kaci Mellen, Edna, KS; 16 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren.
