Jerry Spillman, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and servant of the Lord, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center after a sudden brain bleed. He was 68 years old.
Born on July 4, 1956, in Independence, KS, to Wilma Webb and lovingly raised by Betty Benedict. Jerry spent his life in dedicated service to his family, faith, and community. He lived in many places, including Bartlesville, OK, and Washington State, before settling in Cherryvale, KS, where he and his wife, Linda (Searles) Spillman, built a life together. In recent years, they moved to Chanute, KS. This November, Jerry and Linda would have celebrated 48 years of marriage, a partnership grounded in faith, love, and devotion.
Jerry’s faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him to serve others both locally and abroad. He traveled to Belize twice on mission trips, sharing God’s love and compassion, with his last trip made alongside his oldest grandson, Brenden. His favorite scripture, John 15:13—“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends”—reflected his selfless character. Jerry took great joy in watching his grandchildren play sports, cheering them on with pride and love.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his children: Shelly (Delmer) Raida of Thayer, KS; Brandon (Theresa) Spillman of Neodesha, KS; Michael (Kim) Spillman of Coffeyville, KS; and Marcus (Connie) Spillman of Chanute, KS; and his beloved grandchildren, who will continue his legacy of faith, kindness, and service.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at Chanute Nazarene Church, 1313 W 14th Street, Chanute, KS 66720, on November 23, 2024, at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, and to assist with service expenses, donations may be left at the funeral home or church in Jerry’s memory.
Jerry Spillman will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in peace, embraced by the Lord he served so faithfully.
