Joyce Simmons

Joyce Ann Simmons, 73, of Independence, Kansas passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016 at home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Tyro Christian Church in Tyro, Kansas. A burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Elk City, Kansas. Friends may sign the register on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Webb and Rodrick Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Memorials may be made to Tyro Christian Church and may be left with the Chapel.
Joyce Ann Simmons was born July 16, 1943 to D.J. and Effie Nowlin in Pyatt, Arkansas. Joyce graduated from Yellville Summit High School. She married Steve Simmons on December 25, 1971 in Independence, Kansas. Joyce and Steve owned and operated The Flower Shop in Independence. Joyce was also employed by City Publishing, Gibsons, TG&Y, and K-Mart. Joyce was a 21 year active member of Tyro Christian Church.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, David Nowlin; a sister, Betty Nowlin; one son, Steven Simmons; and a great- grandson, Daxtyn Steven Oliver. Survivors include her husband, Steve of the home; one daughter, Lisa and husband Jamey Rigg; one brother, Michael Joe Nowlin and wife Shirley; daughter-in- law, Amber Simmons; brother in - law, Don Bogle; four grandchildren, Ashton Taylor and husband, Kevin Oliver, Steven Addison Simmons, Hayden Cooper Simmons, great-granddaughter Brittyn Oliver; several nieces and nephews, and her adopted family, Lewis and Judy Johnson and family.
