Larry Shepherd

April 9, 1951 — October 3, 2015

Larry J. Shepherd, 64, of Punta Gorda, Florida, formerly of Independence, Kansas passed away suddenly Saturday, October 3, 2015 at home after suffering from aphasia and dementia for the past two years. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday October 9, 2015 at Gault Hall at the First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014 or The Bluefield Project to Cure Frontotemporal Dementia 1650 Owens Street, Room 205, San Francisco, CA 94158 or left with Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory.
Larry was born April 9, 1951 in Chanute, Kansas to William and Joan Shepherd and attended Chanute Schools. The family later moved to Independence, Kansas where Larry graduated from High School in 1969, he attended the University of Kansas where he received his Business degree in 1973. Following his graduation from K.U. Larry was employed by Federated Insurance and then owned an International Harvester Dealership in Lawrence, Kansas. He later sold Commercial real estate in Dallas, Texas, and worked for Excel Communications in Dallas before relocating to Florida where he continued to sell real estate.
Larry was an avid Jayhawk Fan and loved boating, fishing and partying with his friends.
Larry is survived by his parents, William and Joan Shepherd of Independence, KS, his daughter Lauren Shepherd, Ashville, NC, two brother's: Randy and wife Sherri Shepherd, Brian and wife Judy Shepherd both of Independence, KS, four nephews Kevin and wife Jordan Shepherd, Independence, KS, Scott and wife Abby Shepherd, Independence, KS, Dustin Shepherd, Independence, KS, Andy and wife Ariana Shepherd, Independence, KS, and three great nephews, Reace, Jaxon, and Hudson Shepherd, two great nieces Kinley and Savannah Shepherd.
