Leo Dodson, 92, Independence, Kansas passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 16, 2024 with burial to follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will greet visitors on Sunday, December 15, 2024 from 2:00 4:00 p.m. at the chapel. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Harry Hynes Hospice and may be left with the chapel.
Leo was born April 22, 1932 in Elk City, Kansas to Fred and Alberta (Newton) Dodson. Leo attended and graduated from Elk City High School. Leo served in the Korean War in the United States Army. After returning home from the war he Married Emma Jean Nitz in 1955 and built the family home completing it 1968. Leo was employed by Riaco StarCraft, Comet, Haliburton and Cobalt before his retirement. Following retirement Leo would build custom cabinets at home and sale them. Leo is a member of Zion Lutheran Church and VFW Post 1186 he enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Carl and Marion Dale Dodson, one sister, Mary Ann Knapp. Those left to cherish his memory include is wife of 69 years Emma Jean of the home, two sons Mike ( Kim) Dodson, Independence, KS; Jesse Dodson, Independence, KS; two daughters, Renate ( Bill) Bowman, Independence, KS; Ramona Dodson, Independence, KS; eleven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
