Letha Wilson, age 84, passed away Monday, September 21st at her home in Independence. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 28th at 10:00 a.m., at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 27th at St. Andrew's Catholic Church from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with the rosary recited at 6:00 p.m. The family suggests memorials to St. Andrew's Catholic Church and memorials may be left at the chapel.
Letha was born March 25, 1931 in Independence, the daughter of Antonio, Sr. and Laura (Thomas) Martinez, and had attended Independence Schools. Letha had been employed at Mercy Hospital, Parsons Ammunition Plant, Emerson Electric Co. where she retired from. Letha was a prayer partner with many people, firmly believing in the power of prayer. She loved her family and was the telephone directory for them. She also enjoyed sewing and taking care of her home. Letha was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church.
Letha is survived by her four children; Charles B. (Maelene) Wilson and Kaelem A. Wilson, both of Independence, KS; Teresa J. Drake of Raytown, MO and Angela C. Wilson of Kansas City, Missouri. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Tameka Drake, Billy D. Drake, Jr., Michelle Cunningham, Michael Cunningham, Jr., Makalah Cunningham, Richard Martinez, Christopher Wilson, Char Wilson, Kasey Wilson, Kayla Robey, Kurry Wilson, Kammy Wilson, Kensy Gaddy, Naomi Wilson, Raven Rose Wilson, as well as great-grandchildren; Joshua, Jada, Anthony, Isaac, Camara, Adam, Jr., Jada, Marcus, Quinton, Charley, Ryleigh, Audrey, Omarion, Rowan, Rhett, Roxsi, Tavis, Traye, Ryder, Roderick, Tatiana and Thalia and great-great-granddaughters; Quinaysha, Quiniya, Quinisia and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Letha was preceded in death by her parents, son; Gary C. "Lucky" Martinez, brothers; Raymond Felix, John Felix and Antonio Martinez, Jr., sisters: Alauracie Felix, Felipia Feliz, Frances Felix, Helen Felix, Mary Watson, Juanita Sanders, Rachel Richmond, Alberta Thomas, Marcella Jones and Alice Melugin.
