Lila Brickens

Lila G. "Jerry" Brickens, 91, Independence, Kansas made her journey home to be with her Lord surrounded by family on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. To Honor Jerry's wishes cremation has taken place and a Memorial Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2018 with Chaplin Keith Springer of Harry Hynes officiating. The family will greet visitors on Sunday, April 29, 2018 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory. Memorials may be made to Harry Hynes Hospice and may be left with the chapel.
Jerry was born September 25, 1926 in Iola, Kansas to Francis and Sylvia (Keith) Stroup she graduated from Iola, Kansas schools. On March 14, 1945 Jerry married the love of her life Harold E. Brickens in Mexico, Missouri. The couple lived in Texas, Missouri, and Oklahoma before making their home in Independence, Kansas. Jerry was first a Mother and after the children got older Jerry was employed by J.C. Penny in Independence for a number of years. Jerry was a member of The First Christian Church and the V.F.W. Auxiliary of Independence, Independence Country Club, ARCO Wives Club, AARP, Red Hat Group and enjoyed bowling and playing golf.
Jerry was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 70 years, Harold; two brothers, Keith Stroup and Clare Stroup; one sister, Alice Stroup. Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Pat Graham, Independence, Kansas, Susan and husband John Smart, Independence, Kansas; one son James Brickens, Independence, Kansas; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
