Marolyn L. Hardy, age 85, of Independence passed away Friday, January 13, 2023 at Medical Lodges Independence. Marolyn was born December 3, 1937 in Pittsburg, Kansas to Charles and Rachel Fox. She attended Arma, Kansas schools graduating from Arma High School.
In 1955 Marolyn married Richard Elliot and the two made their home in Joplin, Mo, who later passed preceding her in death. On May 1, 1979 Marolyn married Richard “Wayne” Hardy and the two made their home in Independence, Ks. The couple joined the Zion Lutheran Church where she was active with the Senior Adult Ministry while also singing in the choir.
Marolyn had a passion for education, earning her associates degree from Missouri Southern. She went on to earn her bachelors and masters in science degrees at Pittsburg State University. Upon completion of her schooling Marolyn began her journey in education as a teacher and counselor. She taught at Joplin High School in Joplin, Mo before becoming a counselor in Sarcoxie, Mo. Upon Moving to Independence Marolyn was employed, in 1979, with the Independence High School as a counselor, which she did until her retirement.
Marolyn is preceded in death by her husbands Richard Elliot and Richard “Wayne” Hardy. Parents Charles and Rachel Fox. Twin identical sister Carolyn Druart Ph.D. and brother Randy Fox.
Those left to carry on her memory are her Son Greg Elliot, Step Daughter Susan Sanborn, Sister Betty Geer, and Brother Charles Fox, Grandchildren Scott
Elliot, Cindee Burton (Sanborn), and Corey Sanborn and 6 Great Grandchildren.
Cremation service is taking place under the direction of Webb and Rodrick Chapel. Services for Marolyn will be held Friday, January 20th, 2023 at 10:30 at Zion Lutheran Church in Independence, with inurnment to follow at Mt Hope Cemetery.
