Mary A. Bailey, age 81 of Independence, passed away on February 28, 2015 at her home. Honoring Mary's wishes cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held on Friday March 6, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Melanie Adams officiating. Friends may register on Thursday from 9am to 5pm at the Chapel. The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church and they may be left with Webb & Rodrick Chapel & Crematory.
Mary was born on August 3, 1933 in Winfield, to Joseph and Pearl (White) Orlowski. Mary attended and graduated from Burden High School Mary was united in marriage to Robert D. Bailey On May 5, 1951 in New Mexico. To this union the couple was blessed with 5 children. Mary worked in the insurance business where she became an agent. She loved to writing and was able to write poems flawlessly. Mary volunteered her time with the Stephen Ministries and loved caring for others. She has been a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church for the past 8 years until her health prevented her from attending.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert D. Bailey, one sister, Eleanor Messner, one granddaughter, Stacy Roundtree and one great grandson, Joey Bailey. Left to honor her memory are her sons; Gary Bailey of Coffeyville and Bruce (Mary) of Independence, her daughters Marcia Sovine of Independence, Debra Lindstrom of Broomfield, CO, and Rita (Mike) Alexander of Caney, a sister Delores Mai of New Orleans, LA, 14 grandchildren and 19 Great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, a grandchild Stacy Roundtree, and a great-grandchild Joey Bailey. Arrangements by Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory.
