Maxene G. Garling, age 91, of Independence, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. Graveside services will be on Friday, August 28 at 6:00 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence with Grady Miller of Bolton Friends Church officiating. Friends may sign the register August 27, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Maxene was born February 17, 1924 in Independence, KS the daughter of William Lyman and Josie (Beaver) Garling. Maxene attended rural grade school at Pleasant Valley and attended and graduated from Independence High School in 1943. She had also attended Independence Junior College and Bivins Business School.
She had been employed by the J.C. Jackman Land Co. and in 1944 started working for Union Gas Company, retiring in 1989 after 45 years of service. Maxene had been a member of the National Desk and Derrick Club and was a member of First Christian Church.
Maxene is survived by four great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters; Evelyn Garling Rogers and Irene Garling Lewis, a brother; William Lyman Garling. Arrangements have been entrusted to Webb & Rodrick Chapel & Crematory
