Michael Hight

April 14, 1943 — February 4, 2018

Michael A. Hight, 74, Independence, Kansas passed away February 4, 2018 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville, Kansas. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory. The family will greet visitors on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., at the chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kansas Sheriff's Association and may be left with the chapel.
Mike was born April 14, 1943 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Harry Dale and Irma K. (Klintworth) Hight. Mike attended local schools, and was employed by the Universal Atlas Cement Plant until 1983. Mike then became employed with the Independence, Kansas Police Department and was then employed by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department until 1997. Following his law enforcement career Mike was employed by Charloma in Cherryvale, Kansas until his retirement in 2009.
Mike was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Kansas Sheriff's Association. Mike was an avid hunter, fisherman, outdoorsmen and enjoyed motorcycles, bicycles and camping. He will be remembered as a hard worker, a tad bit stubborn, always had a good story to share, a loving husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, and a great help to anyone in need. Mike even chose to give the gift of life as an organ donor.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents. Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 17 years Reba of the home, one son Mark A. (Alicia) Hight, Cherryvale, KS; one daughter Michelle (Russell) Shaffer, Simpsonville, SC; one sister, Melanie (Vernon) Ledbetter, Independence, KS; one stepson, David (Jacqueline) Vest, Independence, KS; two step-daughters, Michelle (Chester) Davis, Caney, KS; Margie (Mark) Goodman, Independence, KS; step-mother Juanita Hight, Independence, KS; 11 grandchildren, Brian Hight, Independence, KS; Chelsea (David) Wage, Independence, KS; Leslie (James) Wright, Independence, KS; Jacoby Shaffer, Simpsonville, SC; step-grandchildren, Brandi Davis, Caney, KS; Rebecca Davis, Caney, KS; Justin Davis, Caney, KS; Joseph Davis, Caney, KS; Nathan (Allison) LaBatt, Independence, KS; Jerry LaBatt, Independence, KS; Feenix Vest, River Vest, Haven Vest, Independence, KS; and six great-grandchildren.
Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory are in charge of Arrangements.
