Norman Dean Polson, age 84, of Independence, Kansas passed away on Monday June 15, 2020 at the Eagle Estates in Independence, KS.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 26, 2020 at the First Southern Baptist Church with the Pastor Trevor Darr officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Axtell, Kansas at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2020 under the direction of the Webb & Rodrick Chapel.
Visitation hours will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 25, 2020 at the Webb & Rodrick Chapel with the family receiving friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Norman was born near Vermillion, KS to Iner S and Alice M. (Robbins) Polson on January 11, 1936. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church. He attended a one room country school for 8 years and then graduated from Centralia High School at Centralia, KS in 1955. He attended Business School at Oklahoma A & M, Okmulgee Campus (now known as OSUIT) where he majored in Accounting. He worked in Oklahoma City and Seminole before moving to Independence in 1965. He was employed with the Boyd Oliver Agency for 12 years, and then associated with Don VanDyne Agency and then later VanDyne-Lane Agency. He then owned his own Accounting practice for 20 years before retiring in 1998. He was a licensed Real Estate Broker and also worked in Insurance Sales.
On June 14, 1958 he was united in marriage to Suzanne Garrison in Seminole, OK. She preceded him in death in July 2007. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Independence and served as Trustee, Deacon, and Church Treasurer. He was a long-term member of the Independence Lions Club, and past member of the National Accountants’ Society, Public Accountants of Kansas, and the National Paraplegia Foundation. He also served as Treasurer for the Community Coordinating Council of Independence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Iner and Alice Polson, his wife’s parents Bob and Mary Garrison, Brothers in Law: Robert Garrison, Bennie Smith, and Nephews Steven Smith and Ron Garrison.
Survivors include his brother Duane (Shirley) Polson, Niece and Nephews: Denise (Jonathan) Bredow, Kent (Joyce) Polson, John (Sharmon) Polson, Robert Wayne (Martha) Garrison, and sister in laws Saundra Garrison and Linda Smith. Also survived by 4 great nephews and 4 great nieces, and 3 great-great nieces and 3 great-great nephews.
