Opal Ewing

Opal Lorene Ewing age 92, of Independence, passed away on January 28, 2015 at Medicalodges of Independence. The family invites friends to sign the register and share memories on Sunday February 1, 2015 from 4pm to 6pm at Webb & Rodrick Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Monday February 2, 2015 at 3:00pm at Mount Hope Cemetery with Pastor Grady Miller officiating. The family suggests memorials to the Montgomery County 4-H Foundation, they may be sent to the Chapel
Opal was born in Neodesha, Kansas on June 28, 1922 to the late Grover Cleveland and Ora Levada Pitts. Opal was raised in Coffeyville were she attended and graduated from high school, continuing her education she received her associates degree from Coffeyville Community College. During a dance she met Harold Ewing and they became inseparable. On January 12, 1946 Opal and Harold were joined in matrimony in Coffeyville, Kansas, they then made their home on a farm south of Independence. The couple was blessed with 3 children; Opal loved being a mother and wife, she made it her life work seeing that every need of the family was met. Opal enjoyed quilting and teaching the art of quilting privately and for Independence Community College. She even passed down her love and skills of quilting to her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Left behind to honor her memory are two children; Jerald and Janice, 5 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Joyce, and 4 siblings. To leave a message of remembrance to the family please visit webbrodrickchapel.com
