Ramona Browning

Ramona Janett Browning age 78 of Independence passed away on June 26, 2020 at Wilson Medical Center.

Ramona was born in Ponca City, OK on September 26, 1941 to Raymond and Hazel (Akers) Browning. The family made Independence their home and that is where she attended local schools and graduated from Independence High School. After graduation she moved to Arizona where she started working for a dude ranch and a dog track. Ramona returned home to Independence in the early 80’s where she started working for ACC. She devoted 20 years of service to ACC before retiring. In her spare time she enjoyed reading mystery novels, watching classic westerns, writing poems, and collecting owls. Never having children of her own she became everyone’s special aunt. She would always send a card on each occasion and she added extra flair with the many stickers she would add, she called it “Ramonasizing.“ She possessed a special spark about her that just made her, Ramona. She was ornery, loved playing jokes on people, she knew what she wanted out of life, and she was never shy to voice her views she may have been a bit blunt from time to time.

Ramona’s memories will live on with her brothers; Robert Browning, his wife Mindy and Richard Browning, sister-in-law Robin, sister Rebecca Jo Torres, sister-in-law Carolyn Browning numerous nieces and nephews, and best friend Norma Graves.

She now rests with her parents, brother Ray Browning, and her beloved cat Sassy.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Harrisonville Cemetery at 10:30 am. Friends are invited to sign the register on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Webb and Rodrick Chapel. The family suggests memorials may be made payable to Montgomery Place and they may be sent in care of Webb and Rodrick Chapel, 306 W Main, Independence, KS 67301.
