Raymond H. Emmot,70 of Independence died Tuesday January 15, 2019 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita Kansas. Ray was born on November 29, 1948, in Independence, Kansas, to Walter (Kayo) and Andrea Emmot. He grew up in Independence and graduated from Independence High School in 1967. Ray attained degrees from Independence Community College, Emporia State University, and Pittsburg State University. He taught high school social studies and coached football, basketball, track, and baseball at schools in Burlingame, Pleasanton, Frontenac, and Erie before returning to his hometown in 1981. Ray taught and coached at Independence High School until he retired in 2003. He was proud to be head coach for the boys basketball team from 1985-93, coaching the Class 5A 2nd place team in 1992. Ray also worked summers and after his retirement as an Independent crop adjuster in Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas. He enjoyed gardening, fishing at Grand Lake and watching any kind of sports on TV.
On December 26,1978 he married Lorraine Tonn in Girard, Kansas. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his children Luke and wife Holly Emmot, Independence, Johna and husband Ryan Baldassaro, Carthage , Missouri, and Allison and husband Jessy Henderson, De Soto Kansas;10 grandchildren, Lauren, Abby, Megan, Tyler, Kayla, Rachel, and Stacy Emmot, James and Alex Baldassaro, and Emma Henderson; a sister, Andrea Eason, Sunbury, North Carolina, a brother, Bill Emmot, Shawnee, Kansas, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private family memorial service will be held. Friends may register on from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 1:00- 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church Gymnasium. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to the USD #446 Education Foundation.
