At 6:52pm MST July 25, 2016 Roy E. Speaks passed away. Roy made a habit of helping elevate people who surrounded him to be the best they could be. Roy always insured to bring a smile to the weary and laughter to the joyous. Roy achieved astounding success from humble beginnings.
With the motto of helping others before himself, Roy lived the American dream. What Vincent Lombardi was to football, Roy was to manufacturing. By shear natural instinct, perseverance, dedication, discipline, commitment, leadership, passion, caring, and intelligence he became the CEO of one of the largest window and door manufacturers in the United States. Born March 2, 1943 in Fredonia, Kansas he climbed the corporate ladder in an altruistic way-in his own words:
"I was able to be successful by surrounding myself with those who complimented my weaknesses. Those who I worked with, I would push them to do not only their best but to attain results-that is how I became successful-by creating leaders-and giving them credit for their successes."
Without a doubt Roy E. Speaks was a standout among his peers, as he stood steadfast side by side with all who walked with him. Roy fought from a very young age to overcome. Roy never backed down from any challenge. Over the last two years alone Roy continued to triumphantly persevere-despite the words of numerous providers on more than three occasions telling him and his family that his life would end in days to hours. As always, Roy overcame the odds, and in the end, in his home with his family, Roy died peacefully from Parkinson's disease, on his terms.
Please remember-Roy was an amazing friend, businessman, leader, husband, father, and loyal brother. Equally important Roy was a kind soul who offered his heart, humor, and warmth to anyone who needed his grace.
His wife Janie Speaks, daughter Krista L. Speaks, son Jason T. Speaks, brother Dennis Speaks, and sisters Doris Stueve and Imogene Chisham survive Roy. The family encourages all those who can attend to honor the memory of Roy E. Speaks during funeral services to be held Friday, July 29 at 11am at the Wayside Christian Church in Wayside, Kansas.
