Terry W. Davis, 62, Independence, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at K.U. Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. Funeral Services are planned for 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2019, at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory with burial to follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas. Friends may register from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2019, at the chapel. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the chapel. Memorials are to the Magic Basketball Team and may be left with the chapel.
Terry was born September 14,1956 in Independence, Kansas to Emanuel and Nettie (Wright) Davis. Terry attended and graduated from Independence High School. While in school Terry was a 2 time all State Linebacker and a 2nd team All American Linebacker. During his senior year of high school Terry was scouted by several NCAA colleges until he had an ankle injury. Following High School Terry attended I.C.C. and then went on to Wichita State University before moving home. He then attended Pittsburg State Vo-Tech studying Auto Body Repair. After a brief stint in Auto Body Repair, Terry joined his brother Bobby in the Rib House BBQ which he ran for 40 years. When Terry wasn't selling BBQ he enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching sports visiting with friends and cooking for his friends and family.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Bobby, Richard and Timmy. Those left to cherish his memory include two daughters, Kenya Smith, Wichita, Kansas; Latisha Avery, Independence, Kansas; seven grandchildren, five siblings, William Turner, Independence, Kansas, Ruby Preston, EL Sobrante, California; Louis (Fuzzy) Davis, Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Ronnie (Dinah) Davis, Coffeyville, Kansas; Linda Ellerbe, Fayetteville, North Carolina; many nieces; nephews; and lifelong friends. The family would like to thank a very special friend Frank Barker for all time, dedication and care he gave Terry during his illness.
