Virginia Lee (Vannoster) Wilson
Independence resident, Virginia Lee (Vannoster) Wilson entered into eternal rest on June 29, 2017 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was 75 years old.
Virginia was born on September 21, 1941 in Nowata, Oklahoma to Virgil William and Martha Viola (Noblitt) Vannoster. She grew up in the Lenepah area and later the family moved to a farm in Caldwell, Kansas where her family farmed and her father worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita.
In July 1958, she married Vernon Lee Wilson and the couple lived in several locations while Mr. Wilson served in the United States Air Force. The couple divorced in 1971.
Virginia worked factory work all of her life. As a single parent, she always worked hard to make sure the kids had everything they needed to get by. She retired as a Machining Supervisor for Emerson Electric Company in 1999.
She enjoyed hobbies such as motorcycle riding and she still rode until her failing health just wouldn't allow it. She also enjoyed cooking, fishing, woodworking, birdhouses, plants and being with family.
She is survived by her loving family, friend and companion Shirley Fager, of the home; loving children, daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Hal Swanson, of Butler, Missouri; son, Steven D. Wilson, of Ellsworth, Kansas, and son and daughter-in-law, David and Keri Wilson, Independence, Kansas. Daughter-in-law Linda Wilson, Pryor, Oklahoma, 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; brother Archie Gene and Connie Vannoster, Jim and Tammie Vannoster, and Donald and Carolyn Vannoster, all of rural Independence, and a sister-in-law Betty Vannoster, of Dearing.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John Vannoster; and a granddaughter, April Dawn York.
Cremation has taken place and interment services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, Kansas. Former Evangelist of Tyro Christian Church David Bycroft and grandson Bryan Wilson of Your Place Church, Pryor, Oklahoma will officiate. Services are under the direction of Webb and Rodrick Chapel of Independence, Kansas.
Memorials may be made to the Tyro Christian Church. These may be left with the funeral home.
