Wanda Lea Scott, 84, of Neodesha, Kansas, died Saturday, Oct 1, 2016 at Wilson Medical Center, Neodesha. Wanda was born at home near Neodesha, Kansas, the eighth child of Lawrence and Anna Traxler.
She graduated from Independence High School in 1950. She worked as a secretary until April 9, 1951, when she married Lyle Scott of Sycamore Valley. She was a very active member of the Independence Seventh-day Adventist Church where she played the piano, taught children's Sabbath School, and was the church treasurer. Her greatest pastime was helping her children and other people. However, she also enjoyed sewing, gardening, oil painting, crocheting and knitting.
Wanda is survived by Lyle Scott, her husband of 65 years and son Allen Scott (Joni) of Neodesha, KS; and daughters Debbie Burghart (Mark) of Little Rock, Arkansas, Cheryl Erickson (Dwight) of Buchanan, North Dakota, and Gwen Simmons (Mark) of Centerville, Iowa, nine grandchildren and four great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, four sisters, and one grandson, Daniel Burghart.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 5, at 2 p.m. at the Webb & Rodrick Funeral Chapel in Independence, officiated by Pastor Seth Gaskin. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 4, from noon until 8 p.m. with family present from 7-8 p.m. Burial will follow funeral service at Mount Hope Cemetery.
