William Hughes

Bill R. Hughes age 67, of Independence passed away on Friday May 13, 2016 at his home after a long battle with cancer.

Bill was born on December 10, 1948 in Liberal, KS to Jim and Bette (McGuire) Hughes. In 1970 Bill married Linda Lynch, to this union they had two sons, Jeff and Mike. The couple later divorced. In 1995 Bill married Mamie Heisler, she survives of the home. Bill found employment with City Service right out of high school and he retired from Southern Star in 2008. He loved to go to their home at Grand Lake, where he enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, and playing with his "big boy toys". He was a man that liked to tinker.

Left to honor his memory is his wife Mamie, sons Jeff of Winfield, Mike of Rose Hill, Sister Donna Kay Rogers of Broken Arrow, OK, 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, and the love of his life Sissy II. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jimmy, and Sissy I.

Honoring his wishes cremation under the direction of Webb & Rodrick Chapel & Crematory will take place. Friends are invited to the Chapel on Wednesday May 18, 2016 to sign the register and share memories with the family from 10:00am to 12:00pm with the book available to sign until 5:00pm. The family suggests memorials to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or the Cancer Center or to AWOL and they may be left in care of the Chapel.
